The National Automobile Club of Tunisia (NACT), Tunisia's member club of the FIA, recently met with the leadership of the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) at the union's headquarters in Tunis to discuss closer cooperation on media, community and sporting initiatives, the club said in a statement.

ASBU Director General Abdelrahim Suleiman, who has led the union since January 2015, received the delegation. Club president Karim Azzouz headed the NACT side, accompanied by Vice-President Zied Selmi, who chairs the club's Media and Communications Committee, and Habiba Dridi, a club member who chairs its Development Committee. The delegation conveyed greetings from the wider FIA community, including FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

The visit builds on a working relationship that has been visible for several years at ASBU's annual Arab Radio and Television Festival. In 2023, the club ran a pavilion at the festival in Tunis, where Azzouz gave an overview of the FIA's activities and the club highlighted its history in its 110th anniversary year. In 2025, the club returned with a pavilion at the festival's technology exhibition.

According to the club, the two organizations have also worked together on a workshop on combating hate speech and the launch of the Tunis Charter for Combating Hate Speech under Dridi's supervision, as well as a road safety awareness campaign organized with Tunisia's National Road Safety Observatory, heritage car tours for festival guests and "Arab Imprints," a fashion show of traditional Palestinian dress.

The two sides also discussed future initiatives to be developed in coordination with the FIA, particularly in support of agreements concluded with the League of Arab States, and the club said further details would follow. In February 2026, the FIA and the League of Arab States signed a memorandum of understanding in Cairo covering transport, tourism, sport and cross-border travel documents such as the International Driving Permit.

During the meeting, Suleiman received an award recognizing his work and that of the union's staff in supporting the joint initiatives.

Azzouz described the partnership as a significant new step for automobile and mobility clubs internationally, naming tourism, climate action and road safety as shared priorities. Dridi said ASBU's media network and institutional relationships help such initiatives reach wider audiences, while Selmi described the union as a key partner in the success of joint initiatives rather than solely a media organization and expressed hope for practical steps in the coming period.

For a national club whose road safety work depends on public reach, the value of the partnership lies in access. ASBU brings together public broadcasters from across the Arab world, and its Director General said in January 2025 that the union holds more than 90 events a year in Tunisia, drawing around 3,000 participants.
